  Background

The Department of Family Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University is underway with strategic planning. The Self Study/Survey report (2014-2015) recommended that the Department review and reset their priorities and directions for the next five years through a strategic planning exercise. To help inform the strategic planning process, feedback was gathered from internal and external stakeholders to help assess current strengths and potential opportunities for action including what the Department should be striving to achieve in the next three to five years. A Working Group, consisting of the Portfolio Directors and some Site Directors was formed to help guide the strategic planning process. This group met at the end of May 2017 to review the information gathered from stakeholders and developed a draft strategic plan.

Purpose

A consultation process is critical to ensure that we are developing a strategic plan that is meaningful for the department. We feel it is important to share the draft strategic plan with faculty members and staff across the Maritimes and gather your feedback. You can provide feedback through this survey, responding to specific questions. A podcast has been developed to provide context and background about the development of the strategic plan. We recommend viewing the podcast and then responding to the questions online.

The questions will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

More information about the strategic planning process

What will we do with the written feedback?

The online responses will go to Research Power Incorporated (RPI), an independent Nova Scotia research and evaluation firm that we have engaged to support the strategic planning process. RPI will analyze the online responses and provide a report of the findings to the Strategic Planning Working Group. The report will summarize the feedback and provide recommendations for adaptations to the strategic plan.

Confidentiality

There are no right or wrong answers, and you are free to skip any questions you do not wish to answer. Those who complete a survey and provide their name will be entered into a draw to win a 9.7 inch iPad. RPI will provide the names of those who completed the survey to the department for entry into the draw; however, no individual written feedback will be shared with the department. The written online responses will be stored securely on a password protected server. By completing the online questions, you indicate that you have reviewed the information provided above and give your consent to participate.

Thank you for your time and feedback!
